As the son of successful parents who watched helplessly during a 15-year pursuit of oblivion through alcohol and drugs, William Moyers said his near-fatal battle with addiction demonstrates that this “illness of the mind, body and spirit” has no respect for status or opportunity. CLEAR brings this gifted author, speaker and advocate to Pittsburgh for a one night event.

Moyer’s life is committed to eliminating barriers to recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. As Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations, Moyers leads the organization’s policy and advocacy activities. From “carrying the message” about addiction, treatment and recovery, to public policy and philanthropy, Moyers brings a wealth of professional expertise and an intimate personal understanding to communities across the nation. He uses his own experiences to highlight the power of addiction and the power of recovery.

Moyer’s is the author of Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption (2006), a memoir that became a New York Times best-seller as well as. Now What? An Insider’s Guide to Addiction and Recovery. Journeys of Life will be at the event with both books available for purchase.

Tickets available through CLEAR.

CLEAR’s mission is to make the vision a reality… to make Pittsburgh known as a “City of Recovery.”  CLEAR provides a forum for active participation by community leaders to publicly recognize addiction as a critical (public/private) community problem.  CLEAR is leading the way to develop creative solutions to combat addiction in our community.
